SG Vasudev - India’s most celebrated painter, star alumnus of the Madras Government College of Art  and a founder member of the Cholamandal artists village in Chennai.


Vrindavan Solanki is an artist with a signature style that is defined by its captivating monochromatic aura. He studied painting and graphics at the famous MS University of Baroda and has won numerous awards including one from the Gujarat Lalit Kala Akademi as early as 1966.

Anjana Mehra has studied both painting and print making and holds degrees from renowned art institutions like the JJ School of Art in Mumbai and MS University in Baroda. She has done a lot of solo exhibitions across the country to critical acclaim and been part of celebrated group shows too.

K. Muralidharan is a graduate of the Madras School of Arts & Crafts with a diploma in Painting.

Fairly early in his career he was selected to exhibit in Sweden as a guest artist at the Stockholm college. He has since received many prestigious grants and fellowships and has exhibited his works to acclaim both in India and abroad.

Chandra Bhattacharjee is deeply influenced by rural and tribal themes because he sees in it a purity of purpose and expression that is markedly absent in urban life. His inspiration stems from his long association with the Santhals, a tribe of west Bengal known for their intricate paintings on the mud walls of their homes.

Aditya Basak is a prolific painter with 66 exhibitions to his credit. He is a humanist and uses his art to help the less privileged and needy. His auctioned works have addressed causes like animal welfare and the plight of spastics in society.

RM Palaniappan is a well-known artist from Chennai who is an alumnus of the equally renowned Government College of Arts and Crafts in Chennai. His style is largely experimental and exploratory, working with mixed mediums that combine graphics, line drawings and colours to show the diversity of that which he seeks to express – human motivation and behaviour.

Atin Basak hails from Kolkata where he studied painting formally. He later went on to study printmaking at the reputed Baroda college of Art. He has many awards to his credit and has exhibited his works extensively both in India and abroad.

Vijender Sharma hails from Delhi and holds a post graduate degree in painting from the Delhi College of Art. He has been a successful solo artist in India and abroad and has also participated in many group shows.

Madhvi Parekh hails from rural Gujarat and studied art at the prestigious JJ School of Art in Mumbai. Her paintings have a deeply personal ring to them. They reflect a subjective landscape made up of childhood memories and fantasies.

 

Manu Parekh was born in 1939 in Gujarat and completed a Diploma in Drawing and Painting from the Sir J.J. School of Art, Mumbai, in 1962. His early work explored the relationships between man and nature, as according to him, this was an energetic link that had to be celebrated. He is best known for his several paintings on the city of Varanasi.

Anwar Khan, who goes by the name Anwar in the art world, was born in 1964 in Ambha, a small town in Madhya Pradesh. He followed his own passion for painting to Gwalior, the closest place to his home that offered him a course in art, and obtained a National Diploma in fine arts from there in 1985.

Jayakumar Gangadharam Reddy was born and brought up in Bangalore. After completing his diploma in Fine Arts from the Ken School of Art, Bangalore, HE went on to get his post-diploma in Graphics from the Faculty of Fine Arts, MSU, Baroda.

 

Shipra Bhattacharya was born 1954 in Kolkata and studied Fine Art at the College of Visual Arts, Kolkata, under the guidance of her teacher and mentor Shuvaprasanna whom she later married. Her canvases often revolve around feminine figure entrapped within and encasing her dream world submerged in intricate renderings. While the female figure forms a central part of her work, it is more the inner consciousness of these women that the artist draws on, using bold yet soft colours and smooth brushwork.

 

Subhaprasanna Bhattacharya is a well-known Bengali painter who was for long an active member of the famous Calcutta painters’ group. His artistic vision is centred upon finding a universal appeal for his works. He thinks that painting is a medium that can transcend language. It has the power to communicate silently yet intimately. He likes to break out of thematic boxes and invites his viewers to ascribe meanings of their choice to his works.
